On September 11, 2001, America was forever changed. 24 years since the attacks, but that tragic day, which served as a true test of the American spirit, will be remembered always. To paraphrase President George W. Bush, "Time has passed, and yet, for the United States of America, there can be no forgetting that day. We remember every rescuer who died in honor. We remember every family that lives in grief. We remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children." The America's 9-11 Ride is a representation of that American spirit and an embodiment of the phrase "NEVER FORGET".
Team Red Knights NY, this year made up of 17 bikes, 29 people, and one dog (Vader), rode to honor the lost. It was an emotional 5 days, riding to all three 9-11 Memorials (Flight 93 in Shanksville, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City), and although we were doing something we all love, the reason we were riding was always on our minds. We passed through small towns, with people on the sides of the roads, waving American flags. We passed through big cities, where cars pulled over to wave. Our team raised just over $33,000 in sponsorships to aid in the mission of the America's 9-11 Foundation to give scholarships to the children of First Responders. We didn't do it for money or praise...we did it to honor the promise America made 24 years ago, to "NEVER FORGET".
