SENECA FALLS 9/11 WEEKEND RIDEAn overnight trip to beautiful Seneca Falls, NY, which also fell on the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. New York III would have been remiss not to have commemorated this important anniversary. We started our day of riding with a ceremony marking the passage of this terrible day, remembering those who were lost. In honor of the 343 firefighters lost on 09/11/01, the "Striking of the Four Fives" (5-5-5-5) bell ceremony was performed before the flag, half mast. With tears in our eyes and remembrance in our hearts, we honored our fallen.
We spent the rest of the weekend living life to its fullest, riding around Seneca Falls and Geneva. We visited many wineries and breweries and partook of some of the delicious beverages. A ride to the namesake Seneca Falls was a must and not disappointing. We capped the day off with dinner at Bella's Sicilian Ristorante in Geneva, where we were surprised and honored to be serenaded by the restaurant's owner, Thomas Gonzalez. In honor of 9/11, he sang Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York". The food was amazing, Thomas' singing was great, our singing along, not so much...but so much fun! |
